Toaster image

You will always be up to date with your friends' posts as feedalizr checks each service, i.e. twitter, friendfeed, flickr, facebook and jaiku regularly. You can also select the 'show toasters' option on the Settings page. When there is a new update a window or toast will pop up in the bottom right corner of your desktop to alert you that one of your friends has shared something new.

Hot Topics bar

Keep your finger on the pulse of what people are tweeting about with a quick glance at the feedalizr Twitter Hot Topics bar. All you have to do is position your mouse pointer over the feedalizr windowand the Hot Topics bar will appear at the bottom. The ten hottest topics that people are tweeting about will scroll across the bottom of your feedalizr application window.

To see why it’s such a Hot Topic, click on the word. A new browser window will open with the latest tweets about this Hot Topic.

To stop the Hot Topics bar from displaying, click on ‘Settings’ in the top right-hand corner of your feedalizr window. Click on the x in the checkbox to deselect ‘Show Hot Topics.’ To return to your main screen with all your feedalizr updates simply click on the x in the top right-hand corner. You will see that the Hot Topics bar is no longer visible, when you position your mouse pointer of the feedalizr window.

To access the latest info that your friends are sharing on the web, simply double click on the item to be taken to the source of the update. If you are viewing a Twitter window, you can reply, direct message and favourite a message.

The Friendfeed and Flickr windows also allow you to like and comment on an update.

Tabs

Tabs allow you to view the feed of one person's service separately from the main feed, but still in the same window. Simply click on a friend's name or icon and a new tab will open, showing only entries posted by the person for a particular service, i.e. twitter, friendfeed, flickr, facebook or Jaiku. But more than that - this list of entries will contain more entries for this person than you can see on the home tab. You can see your friend’s entire history in one tab, allowing you to more easily follow conversations. You can close a tab by hovering your mouse over the tab title, and clicking the close button (a cross in a circle).

Tabs

Filters

Filters are a simple way to get rid of the noise in the stream. Want to see only twitter ? Simple - click "select filter", and click on "twitter". The current tab will only show items posted on twitter. Want to see posts by a particular user for a particular service? Click on that user's icon to open a new tab, or click on "select filter" and select the username of the user for that service. Remember to remove the filters when you are done with them - simply click the filter box, and select "select filter". Filters work on individual tabs, so you can use a different filter for each user's tab. The biggest change with feedalizr beta version 2.1 is that you can create individual filters by username and service.

Duplication of Friendfeed entries

Feedalizr minimizes all duplicate Friendfeed entries in your main stream from Twitter, Flickr, Facebook and Jaiku. For example if you are following someone on Twitter and you also receive their Twitter posts in their Friendfeed stream, you will usually see the entries twice. To save you time feedalizr now minimizes the Friendfeed duplicate. If you want to see both entries you can click on the expand button.

Duplication

Twitter

feedalizr provides full client support for Twitter. You will need a Twitter account to use this service. When have authenticated, click the icon Twitter, you will be shown a text box in which you can type your "tweets". These are limited to 140 characters (because this is what Twitter allows). You will see the number of available characters at the bottom right of the window. Once you have finished typing your message, click on the tweet button. This will post your tweet directly to Twitter.

Direct messages now appear on a white background (see below). These are private messages sent directly to you that no one else, who is following you on Twitter, can see.

Twitter

You can also ‘retweet’ a Twitter entry. Retweeting is when you share someone else’s Twitter entry with all your followers. A retweet stand out from normal tweets as they usually start with the word Retweet or RT for short. feedalizr has a handy retweet button in the top right of each Twitter entry, you will see this when you mouse over a Twitter entry.

retweet Twitter

To retweet simply click on ‘RT’ in the top righthand corner of the Twitter entry. feedalizr will automatically open your twitter post screen and copy and paste the entry that you have selected to share with your followers and insert the letters RT at the beginning. To complete the retweet simply click on the tweet button. Remember Twitter only allows 140 characters for each tweet, so if it’s a long tweet, the end might get chopped off, but you can edit it before you click on the tweet button, especially if you are retweeting a link.

Feedalizr offers you the most convenient way to tweet from the desktop! If you need to know more about Twitter, visit the Twitter help page.

Friendfeed

Feedalizr provides full client support for Friendfeed. You need a Friendfeed account to follow you friends' stream, 'like' and comment on their posts. Feedalizr enables you to post these actions directly to FriendFeed. Once you have authenticated, click on the friendfeed icon at the top of the feedalizr window Friendfeed. You will be shown a window where you can add a "title" and a link. The link is a normal hyperlink (i.e. something starting with http://www.... ). The title can really be anything - just type a description of the link. When you press the "share" button, the entry will be sent directly to the friendfeed service, and will be available on your desktop almost immediately.

Flickr

Flickr integration is one of the most useful features in feedalizr. Using feedalizr, you can post photos and other images directly to Flickr. You can even take pictures using your webcam and send them straight to your personal Flickr account! Once again - you have to have an account on Flickr, and in order to see your Flickr posts in feedalizr, you must subscribe to the Flickr service in feedalizr.

Once you have authenticated, click on the flickr icon at the top of feedalizr window Flickr. To upload a picture, all you have to do is to drag it to the box on feedalizr that says "drag & drop your images here". Pretty straightforward. You can drag up to twenty five images to upload. Once you press the upload button, the pictures will be uploaded. Each image will be saved in Flickr's "large" format, meaning it will be automatically resized so that the largest dimension is 1024 pixels.

Feedalizr offers an alternative way to get images to Flickr, using your own webcam. This is really simple - once the Flickr service window is open, just click the "start camera" button, and you are good to go. You will see an image appearing in the area where you normally drag and drop pictures (most likely this will be an image of your honourable self). Do you like what you see ? Good - press "snap". The picture will appear in the list of pictures for upload to Flickr. Press "upload" and the picture will be uploaded to Flickr. The newly uploaded images will appear in feedalizr as soon as friendfeed picks up the changes from Flickr.

(Note for Ubuntu users - the web cam driver that Flash uses on Ubuntu does not work correctly...you will probably not be able to use the webcam to post to flickr. We will notify you as soon as Adobe has corrected this problem. If you are either the hacker or adventurous type, you can try this solution. )

Jaiku

The Jaiku service is not public yet...but for those lucky enough to have an account, you can post to it directly from feedalizr. Click the Jaiku icon at the top of your feedalizr application Jaiku. Jaiku also allows only 140 characters in a post, similar to twitter. Say what you have to say, and press the green "jaiku" button. That's it - easy as that. You've created a jaiku.

Video

Video is an experimental feature that enables feedalizr to stream video directly from their webcams to our server. You can also post a link to your video on your Friendfeed stream. To use this feature you need to have a Friendfeed account. Once you have authenticated, click the video icon at the top of your feedalizr application Video and press "start camera" button. Now put on your best smile, take a deep breath, and press the red record button. You are on air! You have thirty seconds to get your message across. You can stop recording by pressing the stop button, and you can review the video by pressing the green play button. Like it ? Press "post video" to make the video publicly available on the feedalizr. Feel free to experiment!

Video

Facebook

feedalizr lets you update your Facebook status and also view the status updates of all your Facebook friends. Once you have authenticated, click on the Facebook icon at the top of the feedalizr window *(insert the icon here). Your latest status update will be displayed. To change your status click clear and type in your new status. Once you have finished and are happy with your new Facebook status click on post. This will automatically update your status on Facebook. You will also be able to see the status updates of all your friends on Facebook for the last 24 hours in your feedalizr main feed.

User Information

When you move your mouse over one of your Friendfeed friends' avatars, you will see a window appear with all the information about the user. You will see icons that show all the services to which your friend is subscribed on FriendFeed. To find the name of a particular service, just hover with the mouse over the icon. If you click the icon it will take you directly to the users page on that particular service.

In addition to the list of services, you will see a list of the users to whom your friend is subscribed. You can click on any of these user names, and the link will take you directly to this person's friendfeed page. This is an easy and convenient way to explore feeds!
